Dr. Tamás Kollarik PhD

Married, father of three children.

Associate Professor at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), a film scholar and filmmaker, and a recipient of several prestigious Hungarian awards, including the Béla Balázs Award, the Miklós Bánffy Award, and the Hungarian Film Award. He holds degrees in law and the humanities and has extensive experience as an academic, cultural administrator and media professional.

He has worked in numerous positions within government and public administration and has managed both state-owned and private companies. His professional career spans a wide range of activities in cultural policy, media governance, and film industry management.

Dr. Kollarik has substantial experience in film and media management. After running his own film production company, he served as CEO of the János Neumann Digital Library and Multimedia Centre Nonprofit Ltd. and later as head of the National Audiovisual Archive (NAVA). He subsequently founded and directed the „Bűvösvölgy” Media Literacy Centre. He is the founder and coordinator of the Hungarian Media Patronage Program (2010–2019), which supported approximately 1,300 contemporary Hungarian audiovisual works, including the Academy Award–winning (Oscar Award) short film „Mindenki” („Sing”). Productions supported by the program have received several hundred domestic and international awards. Member of the Decision Board – Television Productions – of the National Film Institute. Chairman of the ART Committee. He is a board member of the Hungarian Film Academy and a public board member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts.

As a book publisher, film producer, creative initiator, screenwriter, editor, author, and expert, he has contributed to the creation of numerous books, DVDs, documentaries, and commercials. His documentary work includes films about Hungarian lifesavers such as László Ocskay and Miksa Domonkos. He is a frequent speaker at international and Hungarian conferences and film festivals.

He is the author and editor of several influential film-related publications that are currently used as university textbooks, including “Animációs körkép” (Animation Overview), “Mozgókép és paragrafusok” (Motion Pictures and Paragraphs), “Magyar animációs alkotók I.” (Hungarian Animators I), “Magyar animációs alkotók II.” (Hungarian Animators II), “Magyar forgatókönyvírók I.” (Hungarian Scriptwriters I), „Magyar producerek I.” (Hungarian Producers I), „Film és jog a gyakorlatban” (Film and Law in Practice), „Filmfesztiválkörkép” ( Film Festival Overview), „Művészet, média, marketing” ( Art, Media, Marketing), „A magyar animációoktatás jövője” (The Future of Hungarian Animation Education). His name is associated with bringing home the legendary book „Egri Lajos: A drámaírás művészete” (The Art of Playwriting), researcher the two Hollywood film moguls Adolf Zukor and William Fox, and edited their autobiographies, as well as the Hungarian editions of the autobiographies of Miklós Rózsa and Imre Pressburger, as part of the „Hungarians in Hollywood” book series. He regularly publishes articles on film history and the film industry.

He is co-author and editor of the monographs „Gábor Csupó – A Pannónia Stúdiótól a hollywoodi csillagig” (From Pannónia Studio to Hollywood Star) and „Jenő Janovics – Egy élet a magyar kultúra szolgálatában, a színháztól a mozivászonig” (Life in the Service of Hungarian Culture, From Theater to the Silver Screen). He is also (co-)author „Filmkészítők kézkönyve” (The Filmmaker’s Handbook) and the film history album „BUDAPEST / HOLLYWOOD”.

Dr. Kollarik has been teaching at universities for over fifteen years. In addition to MOME, he lectures at Károli Gáspár Reformed University, the University of Theatre and Film Arts, the National University of Public Service, the University of Pécs, and Budapest Metropolitan University. His areas of specialization include film history, film law, and film management.

In 2019, he received the Hungarian Film Award. In 2020, he was awarded the Miklós Bánffy Prize in recognition of his outstanding achievements in film and media management. He has served as patron of the Hungarian Special Film Festival for over a decade and received the Hungarian Special Filming Award in 2022, followed by the István Nemeskürty Award in 2024, and the Béla Balázs Award and the Péter Károly Goldmark Award in 2025.

He is a regular jury member of several film festivals, including the Savaria International Film Festival, the Magenta Telephone Film Festival, the Festival of Cultural Films, and the Local Value Award organized by the National Association of Local Television Broadcasters. He has served as jury president of the Sándor Trauner International Film Festival and as a jury member of the Gödöllő International Film Festival, the Lakitelek Film Festival, the Kecskemét Animation Film Festival, the CAD’oro International Architecture Animation Festival, and the CineFest Miskolc International Film Festival.

For nearly two decades, Dr. Kollarik has been actively involved in preserving the legacy of Ferenc Puskás and the Hungarian Golden Team. Among other initiatives, he played a role in naming the MTK Mihály Lantos Sports Complex on Csömöri Street and was a member of the research team exploring the Puskás legacy in Benidorm, Spain. He served as publisher and editor of the DVD documenting the “Match of the Century” (England vs. Hungary, 3–6) as well as the “Club Match of the Century” (Real Madrid vs. Eintracht Frankfurt). He is the curator of the Puskás Museum and the creative initiator and director of the feature-length documentary „Bölöni – The Transylvanian Legend”.
