László Zsolt Bordos

3d mapping artist, light artist, university lecturer

László Zsolt Bordos is a Hungarian artist born in Brasov, Transylvania – Romania in year 1977. He
studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest and MediaLab UIAH (University of Art
and Design) in Helsinki. He has been working with video projectors since year 2000. With his early
3d animation vj-ing (2000-2004), form-breaking projections (2005-2006) and 3d mapping works
from 2007 to the present, he is recognized as one of the pioneers of the genre.
He has presented his works in more than 40 countries, he participated at numerous exhibitions
and art festivals, including the Mapping Festival Geneva, Glow Eindhoven, Signal Prague, Lux
Helsinki, Filux Mexico, Ars Electronica Linz, ZKM Karslruhe, Adelaide Festival of Arts.

Since 2015, Bordos has been focusing on solo art projects, architectural projections, object mapping
installations, art exhibitions and scenery projections for theater and opera, being involved in
symphonic concerts and opera created for MUPA – the Hungarian Palace of Arts, the Tchaikovsky
Concert Hall in Moscow, Semperoper Dresden or at the Barbican Centre London, in collaboration
with the London Contemporary Orchestra.
2019, his object mapping installation called UMBRA TRIPLICATA was purchased by ZKM|Center for
Art and Media, Karlsruhe, probably the very first 3d object mapping (spatial projection) artwork
which became part of a prestigious permanent collection.

2020 – 2021 he founded ALO, the international Art Of Light Organization / artoflight.org /, he co-
founded and became president of the Hungarian Light Art Scene association called LIGHTHOUSE /

lighthouse.art / and he initiated the Light Art Manifesto: lightartmanifesto.com agreed and
signed by hundreds of consecrated international artists.
2021 September, he launched the Light Art Course at the MOME – Moholy University of Art and
Design in Budapest, Hungary, where he is aiming to bring to life a Light Art Department.
2022 February, curator Peter Weibel selected his work UMBRA TRIPLICATA to be part of the
KINETISMUS exhibition at the Kunsthalle Praha.
2022 August, Laszlo was named the Secretary General of the International Kepes Society.
2022-2023 initiator, co-founder, ex-art director of LAM – Light Art Museum Budapest.
