András Erkel producer passed away at the age 52
András Erkel, the producer of many Hungarian animation films passed away earlier this week at the age of 52. For years he taught at MOME’s Animation Department, also taking part in different international initiatives, as well as in the development of educational programs.
András was listed twice by Animation Magazine as one of the 40 most influential producers in the animation world, while in 2000 he was voted as one of the top 13 movers and shakers in the industry.
He co-founded Varga Studio, the first privately-owned animation film studio in Hungary in 1988. In 1996 he founded a studio in London with John Coates, then in 2005 his own studio, Studio Baestarts that soon became the leading Hungarian animation film studio.
The funeral of András Erkel is on 16th January 2015 at 14:00 in Megyery Cemetery (újpesti Megyeri Temető).
